In 2005 and again in 2007, Solucient recognized our physician-led hospital as a Top Heart Hospital in the nation. In 2005 they announced Project Platinum, a $100 million renovation of the facility. Kingsport Academic Village – An exciting development is underway in downtown Kingsport known as the Academic Village. In summer 2008 Kingsport authorized $11.27 million in bonds to fund the construction of the 54,000 sq. ft. Kingsport Center for Higher Education, which opened in Aug. '09. Another educational facility, The Regional Center for Health Professions, just celebrated it's grand opening. These two buildings along with the Regional Center for Applied Technology, already located downtown, make up the village. It is estimated by city officials that, once complete, the village will amount to a $20 million local investment in higher education and bring 2,100 students to downtown Kingsport.
